I. Working Principle
- Core function: Control the circulation path according to the coolant temperature. During cold start, the small circulation (only internal engine circulation) is adopted to quickly heat up. When the temperature reaches 80-90℃, it switches to the large circulation (heat dissipation through the radiator).
- Mainstream types: Wax thermostats (valves controlled by thermal expansion and contraction of paraffin, with simple structure and low cost); Electronic thermostats (precisely regulated by ECU, with fast response and high precision, suitable for high-end models).

- Performance guarantee: Maintain an appropriate temperature to ensure full combustion of fuel, and improve power output and fuel economy.
- Prolong service life: Reduce wear of parts caused by temperature fluctuations and lower the frequency of overhauls.
III. Fault Impact and Judgment
①Fault impact:
- Valve always open: The engine heats up slowly, increasing fuel consumption and wear.
- Valve always closed: Insufficient heat dissipation, which may easily cause engine overheating and damage.
- Sticking: Large temperature fluctuations affect operation stability.
②Judgment methods:
- Observe the water temperature gauge: Long-term low temperature or ultra-high temperature may indicate abnormality.
- Touch the radiator: If there is a large temperature difference between the upper and lower parts and the water temperature is high, the circulation may be unsmooth.
- Disassembly inspection: Test the valve opening temperature in hot water to see if it meets the standard.
